We booked the Downwind Camp from 15 – 22th of April 2023 at Maeva Kayak and it was just AWESOME.

We spent 7 days paddling and every second was worth it. Philippe is such a great guy: you will have fun and learn a lot about paddling, Fuerteventura, history of the island, nature, society and where you can enjoy the best coffee 😊

This guy is brilliant – weather short lesson on techique, long distance paddling, reading the ocean or high waves for adrenaline kick. We felt well entertained and in good hands.

The equipment – lifevests, paddles, ocs and surfskis met high standards.

Optimal weather surfski conditions. Temperature of air and ocean about 20-25 degrees even in January, but not big difference all year round; north or north/east wind nearly each day. Interesting swell surfing as a good alternative, if no wind.

High standard of boats and equipment, wide variety of surfski for either calm and rough conditions, either beginers and experts, for individuals and groups.

Philipe is experienced licenced guide, empathetic, prompt, strong, tough, devoted and loving people, surfski and sea.

I have some experience with surfski camps and I have to say that Maeva Kayak has provided one of the best quality services which I know.

"An outstanding experience with Phillipe"

We had an outstanding experience with Phillipe visiting Lobos island by Kayak.

The trip in the cristal clear water itself is great, but Phillipe will be able to tell you a lot about the island's history as well. He is great in motivating, cheering and entertaining, is fluent in Spanish, English and French and even knows some lines in German of Nena's "99 Luftballons".

We absolutely recommend doing this trip instead of taking the boring ferry!

"Spending time out on the ocean with him was a rare privilege."

Philippe is a true waterman totally in tune with the seas around Fuerteventura and spending time out on the ocean with him was a rare privilege.

I don't think it matters what level you are at, you will learn more and be a better paddler as a result of getting out on the water with him.

With some previous experience of paddling outriggers I wanted to make a transition into surfski and am I glad I took my first lessons with Philippe while I was in Correlejo!

Surfski is inherently challenging and out in the swell it would be easy to feel more than a bit nervous but Philippe's incredible depth of knowledge, teaching skill and a real ability to make you feel genuinely safe guarantees a great experience.

Sadly I had to end my stay in Fuerteventura but I'll be back for more and look forward to some serious downwind adventures in the near future.

I have been a canoe instructor for over 20 years, I started with white waters, slalom and Canoe Polo. In 2001, I canoed the ocean of Brittany with a sea kayak for a year.

Since 2014, I have moved to Fuerteventura. "MAEVA Kayak" was born in 2017 on the island, the main activity is Hawaian Canoeing and Surfski for all levels.

I will teach you everything you need to feel safe and how to take advantage of the ocean. I will also immerse you in some aspects of the local culture to fully experience the island spirit.

I am proud to be supported by "NALU Canoes", created by champion Marton Buday, who will be present during some Ocean Camps. I am equally happy about the collaboration with "NK Nordic Kayaks".
